Is Sony releasing a new PlayStation 6 in the coming years? Stick around as we take a look at the latest developments regarding the new PS6.
Sony’s PlayStation 5 was released two years ago in 2020, and it looks like it’s high time we get a better, more-advanced console.
Sony typically releases a new PlayStation console every 3 to 5 years. The first PlayStation console, the PS1, was released in September 1995. The PS2 came out five years later, in November 2000. We then got the PS3 in March 2007, the PS4 in November 2013, and the PS5 in November 2020.
It, therefore, looks like it’s too early for the PS6. However, things could be different this time as we could see a new PlayStation console release soon.
Earlier, reports suggested that Sony is working on an updated version of the PS5. There would be two new versions called the PS5 Pro and the PS5 Slim. These versions would be available in late 2023 or early 2024. However, recent leaks suggest otherwise.
A tweet from renowned gaming tipster and leaker Tom Henderson suggests that Sony is currently working on a ‘PS5 update’. He suggests that this new PS5 version could be a “gen 2” version of the PS5 and could be available in September 2023.
He also states that the original PS5 could cease production by the end of the year, and the ‘next gen’ PS5 could begin production and be on sale henceforth.
So, if Sony plans to release the next-gen PS5 by the end of the year, when should we see the PS6?
According to some leaked documents, we shouldn’t expect to see the new PS6 by at least 2027. Documents from the CMA’s investigation into the Microsoft/Activision purchase hint that Sony won’t release a PS6 console until after 2027.
So, it’s going to be a 7-year gap between the release of the PS5 and the PS6
The new PS6 is expected to be better than the PS5. The improved features include built-in wireless connectivity, faster memory, higher storage space, and wireless charging for controllers and headsets.
The PS6 is rumored to come with 32 GB GDDR6 memory and a 256-bit memory interface. It’s also going to have a 1 or 2-TB NVMe SSD option. A faster SSD is surely going to be much appreciated by gamers.
The wireless charging feature for controllers and headsets will ensure that controllers are charged and ready to play. It’s also going to eliminate the need for external chargers making it more convenient for gamers.
Regarding pricing, it’s estimated that the PS6 will be comfortably priced between $ 500 and $ 600. The PS5 costs $499, $100 more than the PS4 at $399.
Of course, it’s too early to say anything about the cost of the PS6. It all depends on the upgrades and inflation. However, expect the PS6 to be attractively priced to generate more sales.
